Thoughts about the "Apple world".

Well, it isn't just "hate" for Apple... No, it's hate for Apple fans.
Apple is a company, as Microsoft, as RedHat, as Novell. As all companies, it tends to exaggerate, to handle the truth for the its own sake.
What I really dislike about Apple is its jihad and its jihadists. Don't misunderstand me, many companies do the same, but Apple has always wanted to be "the solution for all the evil of this world" (Microsoft, IBM, etc).
I really dislike it not just for the fact itself, but for the blindness of the people who believe it. These people are called Mac-lusers or Apple fans, they tend to believe anything Job's says and to fight even with the evidence they are wrong.
They think that Apple is the real revolution, that "new things comes to Apple". Many people - for example - may say that the first MP3 player ever was the iPod, while this is totally wrong (for example, Creative did it before Apple). They may say that Apple invented the Desktop, and this is simply wrong (Xerox did), or the mouse, the click, the screen, the computer, the earth, the universe, the white color.

Fans stands for "fanatics" that is "people who don't think about what they are saying".

They don't use OSX because "It is safer than Windows and easier than Linux". The only reason they have is to have a god (Jobs) and a devil (Gates) to fight, for many years of frustrations accumulated while using Windows.

They aren't power users, so they don't know enough to understand what Apple really do and how the things really are: OSX just isn't the best OS ever. It isn't infallible, it isn't perfect. It isn't beauty (personally, I prefer Windows Vista's theme), because beauty is just matter of tastes.
They tend to overrate their Mac and to underestimate the other OS, for example saying that there are no viruses for OSX, nor malware. Or for example saying that "Apple takes the best of Unix/Linux and make it usable".
Bullshits: the best of Unix/Linux is always been the community and the open source code (with free software this became even more important).

Reality is different: OSX is fallible as all the other OS. Now that it is getting diffused, worms and malwares pops up (like RsPlug). Bugs and security issues are found daily on OS. No everyone is satisfied with Apple's product, someone still prefer Windows.

Apple is just a mode.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that it's better without: Apple does a really good work, helps also the open source community, have nice ideas, improve existing ideas and so on. But they are humans, like me or Microsoft or RedHat or Sony, they may be wrong and they are trying to trick you to sell more, as anyone do.

I like the Apple products, but far from me the idea that Apple is far better than Microsoft. Microsoft do *a lot* behind the curtains, they invent and invest a lot, *they* made a computer in each home. We, I, lot of people, now use Linux and OSX because they learned how to use computers with Windows.

Things could go better without MS? Maybe. Monopoly isn't a good thing, but if you see Apple as your savior, probably you're not thinking in the right way.

A computer is a tool, you should chose it because it make you productive. That is all. If you produce software or computers, you may adopt a philosophy or a production model - like open source, free software, closed source, shared source - in which you believe in (that is, you believe it's more profitable) or best adapt to your ideas.
You may prefer a company who shares your principles, buying it's products to approve its philosophy.

I use Gentoo Linux because I find it well-managed, easy to maintain, easy to use, with a great community. I'm not saying that it is the best. I'm not saying that it's the fastest or the other distros sucks.
It is just suitable for me. It just make me productive (yeah, even with long compile times :)

Besides Linux (which I choose just because I think is the best and more productive for me), I think that FLOSS development model is the best one, and - at last - it will reveal unstoppable and winner over the others. But this isn't a religion war, it's just my opinion. So I adopt GNU/GPL or CC licenses for my works.

That's it. Any other thought is a jihad, is a religion, a stupid war.

Do you wanna be stupid? I don't.

  1. hahaha indovina chi mi è venuto in mente quando hai detto "I'm not saying that it [Gentoo] is the fastest or the other distros sucks."

Allusioni a parte, è tutto molto vero purtroppo.

No, i widget fanno la differenza.

  4. Ma si, non e' che sono inutili... E' che me ne faccio poco.

Quello sarebbe utile per me :P
